Visits and VBS

Last week we had the privilege of Aunt Nancy coming to see us for a day. She was on her way to a nurse meeting in the twin cities and was able to get some time off to see us.

This week (Monday – Thursday) is our church’s Vacation Bible School. This year’s theme is the Lord’s Prayer and the project they’re supporting is GFA VBS Kids (sending other kids to VBS in Asia).

Everything else on the turkey farm continues as usual.

Batter Up!

Another reason we were so busy in May…John was able to join Central Minnesota Christian School’s Junior High baseball team. He was coached by fellow turkey manager Bert Johnson who drove him to the practices.:) While the team as a whole had a “disappointing” season, John connected with the ball a few times, and saw some good action at second base. He learned a lot, made new friends, and had his first experience as a gracious “loser.” We attended all 3 games and are very proud of John!

Susan’s Surgery

On June 23rd Susan will undergo surgery to remove the varicose veins on the inside of her left leg. She’s had this condition for about 25 years and it seems to be the LORD’s will to do something more about it at this time. Doctors wanted her to be “done having children” and now she’s covered by some really good insurance. Recovery from the same day surgery is expected to take two days of bed rest and then work up to “normal.” Meanwhile, Susan is realizing that her leg vessels are a mirror of her lifesyle: trying to fit “20lbs. in a 5lb. bag,” to quote Grandpa Bill Allen. Her biggest fear to let go of was believing the household could function without her hovering around the workings. Let’s see how well she’s trained them…”discipline your children, and they will give you rest!” Proverbs 29:17 :D

Church in a Bar?

“Welcome to the 9:10. We are what time we start.
It’s the perfect church for those that ain’t.”

Joshua finished up his last video of “church in the bar” on Sunday, June 5th. For the past 8-10 weeks Joshua has been helping promote “The 9:10 Simple Church” in the local bar by broadcasting (videotaping) every service on the local cable access channel each week.

This church is organized by a friend of ours who wants to reach the “un-church” and “un-saved”. When a person receives Jesus at this church in the bar, the goal is to redirect him/her to a different church where they can attend perminantly. We don’t want Christians necessarly to attend this church, since it is geared towards the un-saved.

Popular songs from the ’50s-’70s are played every week with the words changed to reflect the message.

Attendance for this church has been poor among the non-christians as well as Christians. Yet, the “9:10″ still goes on. Having the service aired on TV has sparked some curiosity and interest from the general public in the Willmar area.

Joshua had to take a break from videotaping the “9:10″ because the Kraemer’s church switched from 10:45 am to starting at 9:30 am for the summer worship schedule. Joshua also serves as an occassional acommpianist at out church.

You can view one of the actual videos Joshua took of the “9:10″ in our video blog by clicking here.
